One...Harmony in four parts, a beautiful sentiment.

One failing of our modern society, is the destruction of the relevance of the intimate, of families, of families of families (tribe), of families of families of families (nation).

Our society derives its fundamental references not from intimacy (prayer, friendship, love), but from more impersonal or alien sources (commerce, vocation, mass media, button politics, even principles that we seek consistency with).

Our relationship with God is both unconditional ("the soul I have given you is pure") and conditional ("IF you keep my commandments I will give you the rain in its time, if not....), somehow mixing oil and water.

Attitudes, politics even, derived from deep intimacy (prayer life) tend toward the unconditional, the absence of any judgment or potential of doubt whatsoever.

The ever-intimate relationship is equal. Every being on the planet has that capability. The leveled valleys (external, subject to entropy) is also equal, but the equality of rotting shell, rather than of rich deep fresh well.Richard Wittyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02351352097330996449noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6141014.post-6828630168722550152012-08-11T22:18:44.611-04:002012-08-11T22:18:44.611-04:00Excellent point Michael. I guess it is a matter of deciding at what point the actual physical danger outweighs the ties of kinship.
JeremyRabbi Jeremy Rosenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12723608669485173271noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6141014.post-29442060051605881782012-08-09T18:53:40.174-04:002012-08-09T18:53:40.174-04:00After the FBI published the Unibomber's manife...After the FBI published the Unibomber's manifesto, in the hopes of getting some assistance, however small, from anyone in the public realm, who might know the style of these rantings, so that further mutilations and murders could be stopped, David Kaczynski, who immediately recognized the writings as that of his genius and deranged brother, came forward. He argued with, and demanded from the authorities that Ted would get psychiatric help, and a promise to quash any attempt at invoking the death penalty as a price for his assistance, and got both. David Kaczynski loved his brother; dearly - he was family. But he also knew when to draw the line. Other people were going to be hurt, or killed, if he did not act; if he did not go public; if he did not make the scales of Justice and the morals of Humanity of greater importance than the ties of kinship.Michaelnoreply@blogger.com
